How to protect wooden furniture?

All pieces of furniture from our workshop are protected with varnish or wax-oil. These products are the most resistant to damage, and your purchased piece of furniture will still look like new after many years of using. What is the difference between a varnish and a wax-oil, and which one to choose?

VARNISH - the best bodyguard against table disasters

Varnishes are tradition and modernity in one. For years, they have been the most popular wood preservatives due to their high resistance to moisture and mechanical damage. Varnish also makes the least changes in the natural shade of the wood.

Varnish - protective properties

For the protection of furniture, we use a high-quality, two-component, solvent-based acrylic resin varnish. You can throw your keys on the table, your kids can play with the toy cars on it, people can spill red wine on it during the party, and the table will still look great. Remarkable resistance to mechanical damage, stains and high temperature is the main advantage of our varnish.

And don’t forget its high resistance to light and UV radiation. Most regular varnishes tend to yellow quickly when exposed to sunlight, but not our varnish. Wood protected with it will change its shade very slowly, aging with style and getting more attractive with age.

Varnish - visual effects

The distinctive feature of our varnish is the fact, that we can influence the degree of its gloss. Like no other protective product, it can completely absorb or reflect light.

You can choose 4 levels of gloss, which affects the final appearance of the furniture.

MatteMatte varnish protects the surface, while giving the effect of raw wood. The matte finish brings out the raw, natural beauty of the furniture, prevents the light from reflecting on the table, and focuses all attention on the wood itself.
Semi-glossThe semi-gloss finish is a less radical version of the matte varnish. The furniture still looks natural and raw, but a slight gloss adds some lightness to it.
SatinSatin is the most popular gloss type. It adds elegance to furniture, reflects light, making the surface appear brighter and clean. Satin varnish feels also smoother to the touch than the matte one.
GlossThe high gloss furniture is a synonym of luxury and elegance. A simple form paired with gloss gives a new dimension to the interior. It goes particularly well with the glamour or mid-century style.

Coloring of varnished wood

Before we apply the varnish, we can color the surface of the wood with stains. You can read about the available staining options in this guide. We do not color the furniture with varnish stains and colored varnishes. The two-stage process – application of a stain and then another layer of a protective coat - makes the color more durable and evenly distributed.

Standards met by our varnish

  • DIN EN 71-3 (heavy metals)
  • DIN 53160 (resistance to saliva and sweat)
  • DIN 68861 T1 (chemical resistance)
  • DIN 68861 T4 (scratch resistance)
  • DIN EN 13 501-1 (flame retardant)
  • resistance to hand cream
  • APEO-free
  • formaldehyde free

WAX-OIL- natural safety

For some time wax-oils have been making a sensation in salons, or more precisely - on their floors. It is a mixture of oils and waxes which, thanks to the appropriate hardeners, gives a visual effect of the oil finishing, smoothness of the wax and hardness of the varnish. It is also an ideal option for protecting furniture.

Wax-oil - protective properties

After application of wax-oil, the surface becomes extremely durable, resistant to dirt and water. When a drop of water falls on such a surface, it does not spread and does not sink into it because the oil creates a hydrophobic barrier.

While the oil protects the wood from the inside, the hard wax creates a resistant film on the outside, comparable to varnish. You can safely put hard objects or hot dishes on such surface.

The main advantage of wax-oil in comparison to varnish is its influence on the microclimate at home. Wood protected with a wax-oil provides a healthy environment and is an actively breathing surface. It is easier to look after and renew.

Wax-oil - visual effects

Wax-oil like no other protective product emphasizes the grain and natural color of the wood. Wax makes the wood surface silky and pleasant to the touch.

In the colorless version, the wood gains a deep, slightly darker shade. When we use a coloring wax-oil, we can properly implement warm or cold pigments, changing the nature of wood and adjusting it to the colors prevailing at your home. The grain and natural contrasts between the soft and hard wood fragments will still be visible.

Wax-oils are available in a colorless and colored version. You can go over the available colors in this guide.

Wax-oil - safety

Our colorless wax-oil is the best choice for allergy sufferers - it has been awarded the ECARF Quality Seal. It’s the seal of approval for products that have passed quality tests for allergies. They are safe for people diagnosed with inhalant allergies. Therefore, the product is perfect for children's room or bedroom furniture, as well as for the dining room table.

The colorless wax-oil is also safe for food contact (in accordance with the regulation EG No. 1935/2004). We recommend it for kitchen tables, countertops and other surfaces used for food preparation.

All wax-oils are free from formaldehyde and flavorings, biocides and preservatives, as well as cobalt and oxime.
